Hurricane Season 2009

- Tropical Storm Ana: August 15, 2009 was named the first Tropical Storm of the season.
- Hurricane Bill: Reached Hurricane Strength on August 17,2009.
- Tropical Storm Claudette: Formed on august 16,2009 in the Gulf of Mexico Downgraded to a tropical depression on August 17th.
- Tropical Storm Danny: Formed August 26,2009 and never reach hurricane strength.
- Tropical Storm Erika: Formed September 1, 2009.
- Hurricane Fred: Formed on September 7, 2009 and Strengthened to a catagory 3 hurricane yet is not expected to threaten land. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32752687/ns/...

Hurricane Season

The 2009 Hurricane season and this season has been relatively quiet.
Tropical Storm Henri formed on October 6,2009.
One likely reason for this slow season is El Nino. The El Niño is an unusually warm flow of water that can form off the Northweast coast of South America. This can cause the Jet Stream to shift southward which can create wind shear, upper level winds that can slow the development of a hurricane. This does not mean we can not expect some activity.
William Gray and Phil Klotzbach meteorologists from Colorado State University are calling for a below average season. They expect to see just ten named tropical storms and only expect four to develop into hurricanes.

Hurricane Ida is now Tropical Storm Ida and is hitting Between Pensacola, Florida and Mobile, Alabama.
