  • Hurricane Rick formed off the southern coast of Mexico on October 16, 2009. Moving west-northwest, the storm was upgraded to a category-four hurricane on the morning of October 17, 2009. The National Weather Service projects the storm will reach category five-level status in the day on October 17.

    Expected to travel parallel to the coast of Mexico, Hurricane Rick is projected to make landfall on the Baja Peninsula on Thursday, October 22, 2009.

  • Prior Incidents

    A previous storm named Hurricane Rick formed in November 1997, reaching a category two status and hitting Mexico on November 10, 1997. While it produced 10 inches of rain causing mudslides and flash flooding, no fatalities were reported.
