Hummer


Hummer is brand of SUV that was owned by General Motors. The original Hummer design is based on the U.S. military's High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (Humvee).

On June 1, 2009, following the bankruptcy of General Motors, GM announced that the Hummer brand was going to be discontinued. The following day, it was reported that GM had instead sold the brand to the Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd. in China.c

On February 24, 2010, an announcement was made that the deal with Sichuan Tengzhong fell through and that Hummer would be discontinued.c

Hummer Timeline

1992: Hummers roll off the production line of AM General, the first time a civilian humvee-type of vehicle became available to the public.
1999: AM General sells the Hummer name and distribution rights to General Motors.
2002: AM General builds the new Hummer H2.
2005: The 2006 Hummer H3 debuts.
2006: On May 12 of this year, the end of production of the AM General Hummer H1 is announced.
2008: GM announces it is considering selling or closing the Hummer brand.
2009: GM files for bankruptcy on June 1 and announces that Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company of China will purchase the Hummer brand.
2010: GM announces the China deal fell through on February 25. GM officially shuts down Hummer on October 31.c
