Humidifier

A humidifier is an appliance designed to increase humidity and moisture. They can be used to humidify a single room or an entire house. Most small unit humidifiers are used to increase moisture in a single room.

Humidifier Use

Humidifiers are used to add moisture to the air. This provides comfort in dry conditions and also protects surfaces like wood from drying out. Most humidifiers are made of basic parts like a reservoir, wick, and fan. The reservoir is the tank that holds water that will be converted into moisture in the air. The wick absorbs and filters water from the reservoir. Water is evaporated through the wick and becomes water vapor. Wicks need to be kept clean in order for a humidifier to work. The fan blows air into the wick and assists in the evaporation process.

Watch Out for Mold

One disadvantage to humidifiers is the potential for dust mites and mold growth, which can be a health hazard. To prevent mold from growing, humidity should be kept between 30% and 50%. There are some humidifiers that use Microban technology to keep mold from growing inside the humidifier.
