Hulu Plus is the new rumored subscription service by online TV show host Hulu. The new service, which is expected to be started as early as May 24, 2010, would offer content for popular TV Series that until now was not available through Hulu.com.

For many popular series, Hulu currently only features the last five episodes, with advertisements inserted at the same locations as with regular TV broadcasts. Hulu Plus is expected to allow users to view a wider range of episodes, including earlier episodes of popular series “Lost”, “Family Guy”, “30 Rock” and “The Office”. Whether the episodes included in the Hulu Plus package would be advertisement-free or not, is not yet disclosed. The subscription service is expected to be offered at a monthly fee of $9.95.

The arrival of the “Hulu Plus” subscription service does not come as a surprise, as Hulu CEO Jason Kilar repeatedly stated the desire to offer part of the Hulu content as part of a subscription service, instead of the current free streaming with advertisement model. As Hulu requires Flash to operate, the site is not directly accessible through the Apple iPad. A dedicated iPad App was expected to be developed in the near future, which would also include a subscription model. Commenting on the possible development of an iPad App, Kilar stated:

“Our mission is to help people discover the world’s premium content, and we believe that subscriptions can help to unlock some of that, including sports and movies and premium cable shows. Hulu is a video and film hosting site by News Corp. and NBC, launched on March 12, 2008. Hulu hosts a wide range of TV shows and movies of US TV stations, including NBC, Fox, Bravo, and Sci-Fi. The TV series are streamed in a similar fashion to regular broadcast versions, with intermediate commercial breaks. Hulu is only accessible in the United States.
