A tornado, accompanied by baseball-sized hail, battered Hugo, Minnesota on Sunday, May 25, 2008.
The tornado was included in a storm system which swept across much of the Midwestern United States, and also included the Parkersburg Tornado.
The tornado that passed through Hugo destroyed at least 50 homes, killing 2-year-old Nathaniel Prindle and seriously injuring nine others. Hugo is thought to have been the hardest-hit by the storm.
More injuries and/or deaths could be confirmed as 20 individuals are reported missing.
Recovery efforts are under way, but the county has been declared "a state of emergency" by Governor Tim Pawlenty.
The Prindle's
The Prindle family suffered the loss of 2-year-old Nathaniel Prindle who died from injuries received during the tornado.
4-year-old Annika Prindle is listed in critical condition. Gerald Prindle, the father, is listed stable condition and the mother, Christy Prindle, was treated and released from Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Parkersburg, Iowa
The same storm system flattened half of the town of Parkersburg Iowa taking out the high school, restaurants, homes and banks. The elementary school is providing temporary shelter for residents and the Red Cross has set up locations to assist residents.
