Career
Hugh Laurie was born in Oxford, England, on June 11, 1959, the youngest of four children. His father was a doctor and former Olympic gold medalist in rowing, and Laurie was expected to follow in his footsteps. A bout with mononucleosis, however, cut his rowing career short while he was attending Cambridge University, and that, coupled with his poor academic performance, led him to pursue his passion for performing. He auditioned for and was accepted into the university's Footlights Revue, a world renowned student theater group. There, he worked with actress Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry. The trio would go on to star alongside one another in several television series and specials in their early careers.http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800024921/bio
