Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman is an Australian film and stage actor who portrays Wolverine in the X-Men movie series.

In 2008, the actor starred in the film Australia and was voted the "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine. Jackman was the host of the 2009 Academy Awards, which took place on February 22, 2009.

Jackman performed in the opening act, where he sang and made fun of the movies nominated for Best Picture. He also performed a song and dance routine with Beyonce, High School Musical stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens and Mamma Mia! stars Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper.

Jackman participated in theater productions during school and college, though he majored in journalism while attending Sydney's University of Technology. After obtaining his college degree, he went on to study at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, graduating in 1994.

Jackman performed in a number of plays, musicals and films before being chosen by director Bryan Singer to play the role of Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men, which launched his career in Hollywood.
