Howl Plot Summary
Howl is set primarily in 1957 San Francisco. The story line is divided into three interwoven subplot lines, all of which revolve around and climax through the Allen Ginsberg obscenity trial for his poem, Howl.
One of the subplot lines follows a young Ginsberg through his early years and the source for his inspiration to become a poet and diarist. The second subplot line is a reflection of society's reaction to Ginsberg in terms of the trial itself. The third subplot line uses a collection of animated sequences to attempt to capture and resonate the essence of the counterculture and beatnik movement solidified by the Ginsberg poem, Howl.
