About hCG
HCG is a human hormone produced by pregnant women. A test determining the presence of hCG is used to determine if a woman is pregnant, or as a screening for possible birth defects such as Down syndrome. It is also used by some as part of a weight loss regimen.
HCG stimulates testosterone production. Anabolic steroids imitate testosterone, and must be taken in cycles to stave off testicular atrophy; injecting hCG restarts natural testosterone production after a user has come off a steroid cycle. It is banned by the World Anti-Doping Angency and is illegal without a prescription.

Troopergate report: Palin abused power
An ethics report released by Alaskan lawmakers has found that governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin abused her power in a "troopergate" scandal earlier in 2008. The investigation, which began before Palin was selected by John McCain to be his running mate, has focused on allegations that Palin pressured Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, a man who had been involved in a bitter divorce with Palin's sister. After Wooten refused, he himself was dismissed from his position. Palin has denied any wrongdoing.
A preemptive attempt by Alaskan republicans to quash the investigations was rejected by the Alaskan Supreme Court on October 9, 2008. The 300 page ethics report by Steve Branchflower, including another 1,000 supporting documents, was submitted to a 14-member panel of Alaska lawmakers on October 10, 2008.
