About hCG
HCG is a human hormone produced by pregnant women. A test determining the presence of hCG is used to determine if a woman is pregnant, or as a screening for possible birth defects such as Down syndrome. It is also used by some as part of a weight loss regimen.
HCG stimulates testosterone production. Anabolic steroids imitate testosterone, and must be taken in cycles to stave off testicular atrophy; injecting hCG restarts natural testosterone production after a user has come off a steroid cycle. It is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency and is illegal without a prescription.

Dow drops 733, reports paint bleak picture
The central barometer of the U.S. economy, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, ended its worst week in history on October 10, 2008. The Dow is a stock market index comprised of the average performance of 30 major American companies.
On October 15, 2008, the Dow dropped 733 points after two reports painted a dire picture of the U.S. economy in the near future. The reports, produced by the Commerce Dept. and the Federal Reserve, convinced many on Wall Street that a recession was inevitable.
Fast Facts
- Established: May 26, 1896
- Founder: Charles Dow
- Maintained by the The Wall Street Journal
- The DJIA is calculated based on the weighted stock price, rather than market capitalization
- All-time low: 28.48 in 1896 (as of June 2008)
- All-time high: 14,000 on July 19, 2007 (as of June 2008)
Wild October
On October 6, 2008, responding to global credit fears, the Dow finished below 10,000 for the first time since October 2004. After a day in which stocks dropped as deeply as 9600, the market rebounded, finishing the day at 9990.47.
On the afternoon of October 9, 2008, the Dow finished below 9,000, to close at 8579.19 -- its lowest mark since July 1, 2003. Many analysts cited continued investor concerns about a credit crisis as a major reason for the decline. Early in the day on October 10, 2008, the markets appeared to be rebounding slightly, but the Dow closed at 8,451.19--down 128 points from the previous day.
On the morning of October 13, 2008, the Dow jumped more than 400 points. Analysts attributed the rebound largely to global efforts from world leaders to fight a deepening financial crisis. By day's end, the Dow had rallied more than 900 points -- the biggest single-day gain in history.
The historic gains of the previous day could not be maintained: on October 14, 2008, stocks rallied early, then fell off by mid-morning.
September 2008 Banking Crisis
Between September 15 and September 17, 2008, the average dropped a combined 800 points. On September 29, 2008, on news that the House of Representatives had voted against the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the Dow plunged over 680 points. The next day, the market rebounded somewhat, doing what observers have labeled a "Dead Cat Bounce."

Jesse Jackson's "Zionist" comment
Reverend Jesse Jackson stated in October 2008 that if Obama were elected president, Zionists would lose their influence and "decades of putting Israel first" would end. The Obama campaign denied these statements, saying that Obama is committed to maintaining a relationship between the U.S. and Israel. The comment was made in an article in the New York Post while speaking at the World Policy Forum in France. This statement follows some controversial comments Jackson made about Obama in July 2008, which he publicly apologized for.

As he has made clear throughout his career and throughout this campaign, Barack Obama has a fundamental commitment to a strong U.S.-Israel relationship... As president, he will ensure that Israel can defend itself from every threat it faces, stand with Israel in its quest for a secure peace with its neighbors, and use all elements of American power to end Iran's illicit nuclear program." -- Obama national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi
