Introduction
- You can't wait to get your hands on a BlackBerry Storm, but your friend could really use a decent PDA, so you're giving your old BlackBerry to her. You may be flush with warm feelings over your own generosity, but before you hand over the device, be sure to wipe, or remove all data, from it
- There are two ways to effect this:
-
Step 1: Trigger a Programmed Wipe
- The Blackberry is programmed to wipe itself clean in case of a perceived security breach. Here are the steps to trigger the programmed wipe:
- From the main menu, choose the Options (wrench) icon.
- Select Security Options.
- Choose General Settings.
- Type the wrong password into the password field ten consecutive times.
- You will be prompted to type the word Blackberry to confirm the wipe.
-
Step 2: Use Manual Wipe
- From the main menu, choose Settings
- Choose the Options (wrench) icon
- Select Security Options
- Choose General Settings
- Press the menu button. A popup menu will appear.
- Scroll to Wipe Handheld and select it.
- A prompt will appear to allow you to choose to remove all data, or software only. Check the box, if appropriate, and choose Continue.
- When prompted, type in the word Blackberry. You will be reminded to avoid removing the battery until the wipe is complete.
- Please be aware that wiping the device also cancels any service you may have been using.
