Background
Carnegie was offered a publishing opportunity by Simon and Schuster after one of the company's workers, Leon Shimkin, took Carnegie's 14-week course. Shimkin believed in the material's potential, and had Carnegie's notes transcribed for print.
5,000 hardcover copies of How to Win Friends and Influence People were printed in 1936. It has remained in print ever since.
