Step 1: Learn How to Play
- Before you can win at Blackjack, make sure you know exactly how to play it.
- Every card in Blackjack is assigned a numerical value. Jack, Kings and Queens are worth 10. Cards with numbers are worth their numerical value. You can choose to play an ace as a 1 or 11.
- Winning in Blackjack means having a hand of cards which value is higher than the dealer's, but not higher than 21.
- After placing a bet, you will be handled two cards. The dealer gets two cards, one face up so you can see it.
- Look at your card and decide if you want to hit (ask for another card), stand (end with your current cards), doubling down and get one more card (only allowed at the start), or split (make the cards into two separate hands and place another bet for the second hand).
- When you stand, your hand is compared to the dealer's.
- Some rules will differ in different casinos. Make sure you know the rules where you are playing.

Step 3: Learn Basic Strategies
- There are some basic strategies for how to play Blackjack. These strategies are based on the mathematical concept of probability and what cards is most likely to be dealt next. This strategy assumes that a card worth the value of 10 will always be dealt next, since this applies to most of the cards in a deck. Study basic strategies on when to hit, stand or split based on different card combinations.

Step 4: Card Counting
- Another strategy is to count cards, that is keeping track if which cards are dealt and the ratio of high value cards to low value cards. This strategy allows you to figure out when is a good time to place a high bet versus a low bet. If you want to use card counting you need to be very careful, however. In most locations it's not illegal (as long as you don't use any devices for it), but it's frowned upon in most casinos and can result in you getting thrown out.

Step 5: Practicing
- If you are new to Blackjack, you will need some practice before starting to play. Even if you have played Blackjack before, it's always a good idea to practice to refresh your memory and make sure you understand and can use the basic strategies. You can practice with friends or in computer simulators. Make sure to polish your mathematical skills, especially in the area of probability.
