Step 2: Rules for a Graduation Gown
- When wearing a graduation gown, you will be limited by a few rules.
- Graduation gowns for bachelor's degrees are typically worn closed.
- Graduation gowns for master's degrees and doctor degrees can be worn closed or open.
- The hood is placed around the neck, hanging down in the back, but attached in the front. It is attached to inside of the front of the gown or to the clothes worn underneath the gown.

Step 3: Things to Keep in Mind
- There are several other things to keep in mind.
- If your gown is in a dark color, it's best to wear a dark color beneath it, as some graduation gowns can discolor the clothes you wear beneath it.
- You might also want to wear dark clothes underneath a white gown, as some of them are translucent.
- Make sure your outfit beneath it goes with the gown, as some of it might be seen underneath the gown.
- It can be helpful to wear a shirt or dress underneath that buttons up to the neck so that you can easier attach the hood to it. You can also use safety pins for this.
- Graduation gowns can be quite worm - wear light clothes under the dress if the weather is warm.
