Introduction
- Rogaine is an FDA approved topical solution used to treat hereditary hair loss in both men and women. It is available without a prescription, and comes in a foam or as a liquid solution. It is easy to use, and generally considered safe. However, it should not be used on sunburned or otherwise injured skin. If you are experiencing hair loss, it is always a good idea to see your doctor to determine if the problem is hereditary or if there are other issues, such as malnutrition or illness, that may require medical treatment.
-
Step 1: Choose Products
- Both Rogaine foam and topical solution contain the same amount of active ingredient (minoxodil 5 percent). Just choose whichever form you find more appealing. Rogaine also makes shampoos and styling products recommended for use with their hair loss systems under the name Progaine. Progaine products contain no monoxidil, but are formulated to enhance thin, fine hair.

Step 3: Have Patience
- Remember that your hair will not grow back overnight. In fact, it will most likely take between two to four months before you see any real results. You may even shed more hair than usual during the first two weeks of treatment with Rogaine—do not be alarmed if this is the case. Persistence pays off when it comes to Rogaine, so stick with the program and hopefully you will notice your hair slowly begin to return after continuous use.

Conclusion
- If you are losing your hair due to genetics, Rogaine may help you grow it back. It should be applied twice daily to dry hair, and begins to work after about two months (but could take up to four). Before starting Rogaine or any other hair loss treatment, you should see a doctor to determine the root of your problem (no pun intended). Many types of hair loss are not genetically caused, and sometimes there is a more serious underlying problem that must be treated.
