How to Use Multi Touch
This video from getamac describes a Mac multi-touch trackpad and explains the basic functionality.
-
Step 1: Basic Commands
Clicking:
You can click anywhere on the track pad by pressing down.Right or Secondary Clicking:
Press the trackpad quickly once with two fingers.Note: Some track pads allow you to assign a specific area in the system settings so that one finger can be used to press a specific location on the trackpad to either right or left click.
Double Clicking:
Tap the track pad quickly twice with a single finger to initiate a double click. -
Step 2: Dragging and Dropping
Dragging and dropping on a multi-touch capable device is slighter different than some people are use to. To drag and drop:- Plant your thumb on on one part of the track pad and leave it stationary.
- Using the index finger of the same hand, click on the item you wish to drag-and-drop
- With your thumb remaining still, move your index finger across the trackpad and the item you wish to move will follow
Step 3: Advanced Multi-Touch Gesturers
Most multi-touch devices allow you to browse and move in unique ways.- Scrolling horizontally:
Placing two fingers on the trackpad, sweep them either left or right across the trackpad to scroll left or right. This is particularly useful in iTunes, on web pages that are oriented horizontally and on large spreadsheets.
Scrolling vertically:
Similar to scrolling horizontally, place two fingers on the trackpad and sweep them up or down to scroll in either direction.Rotate:
Make a "pinching" or "c" shape with your thumb and index finger. Twist your fingers clockwise or counter clockwise to rotate an image, photograph, or other element.Enlarge or Shrink:
Similar to rotating an image, you can gesture to enlarge or shrink an image. With the same pinching or c shape orientation as rotate, move your thumb and index finger closer or farther apart to increase or decrease the size.Page Flip:
Many modern web browsers, adobe reader, and various other programs utilize page filliping gestures. Place 3 fingers on the trackpad and sweep either left or right to move forward or back.Mac Specific, Hide Your Desktop:
If you have a lot of windows open and would like to quickly see your desktop, place 4 fingers on the trackpad and swipe up to remove the items and down to put them back. Swiping down can also show all of your open windows.Mac Specific, Open Application Switcher:
To quickly move between open applications, you can place 4 fingers on the trackpad and swipe right to open the switcher.Resources Powered by Google
