How to Use Master Objects in Pages for iWork

Using Master Objects

A master object is like a watermark, an image or shape added to the background of every page of a section in the document. You can customize what image or shape to use and then place it on the page.

1. Open a document in Pages.

2. Add an image or a shape to your document. This could be a company logo, picture or shape from the Shapes menu.

3. Next you want to prevent the image from affecting the text on the page.

Open the Inspector window by clicking on the Inspector icon in the toolbar. Select the Wrap Inspector tab and uncheck the box next to Object causes wrap. This will make the image float over the text and other items on the page.

4. Now send the image into the background of the page. Under Object Placement in the Wrap Inspector, click on In Background

5. Go to the Graphic Inspector tab and adjust the image's opacity by using the Opacity slider.

6. Place the image where you want it on the page.

7. Go to Format --> Advanced --> Move Object to Section Master. The object will appear on every page of the section in the same location.

8. Going to Format --> Advanced --> Make Master Objects Selectable will lock the object into place and disallow clicking or moving it.
