Introduction
{{vote}}- You can now recommend links, make friends on Mahalo, share links you've recommended with friends, and much more. Your level of participation counts with Mahalo Social—recommend great links and your rank rises on our leaderboard. Read on to find out how to use Mahalo Social.

Create an Account
- To participate on Mahalo Social, you'll need an account. Fortunately, creating one is very easy.
- On any Mahalo page, click on the "Create Account" option in the upper right corner.

- Fill in the requested information:
- Username: your username is how you'll be identified on Mahalo, so choose one you want others to see!
- Email address: you must provide a valid email address so you can activate your account
- Password
- Real name
- Then click on "Create Account."
- If you like, you can now invite friends to join you on Mahalo, either by importing your email address book, or by entering individual emails.
- If you prefer to wait, you can always invite friends later.
- To upload an image, click on "Change Image."
- You can upload gif, jpg, and png files.
- After you've uploaded an image you're happy with, click on "My Profile" again.
- Select the "About" tab.
- Click on "Change About Info" to write your own profile.
- When you've written a bio you like, click on "Update About Info," located in the bottom left of the screen.
- Click "Return to your profile" if you want to see your bio.
- Type or paste in the link's URL.
- Write a brief description of the link, letting us know why we should include it.
- Click "Recommend Link" to submit it.
- Type or paste in the link's URL.

- Click "Recommend Link" to submit it.
- A box will pop up, with the page's URL and title.
- If you're not logged into Mahalo, you'll be prompted to do so.
- If you think the title should be different, go ahead and update that information.
- Then tell us what page the link should be on.
- Don't worry about whether or not we currently have the search result you're submitting a link for. Just put the name of the result you think this page should be on.
- Next, let us know why you think the site is a great addition to Mahalo.
- Then "tag" the site with key words. Use any words or phrases that best describe the site.
- Since sites you recommend appear in your profile, these "tags" help you keep track of what pages you've submitted.
- Then press submit.
- Your link will now appear in the User recommended links section of that search result on Mahalo.
- If you recommended a link for a term we don't yet have, your link will create a page for that term, which other users can then contribute to.
- Click on "My Profile."
- You'll see a few statistics under your profile image:
- Number of links accepted
- Number of links you've recommended
- Number of links banned
- Your rank goes up the more links you recommend, so participate!
- You're also ranked based on the number of your links that have been accepted to Mahalo pages, so recommend good ones!
- Conversely, if you recommend bad links we will ban them from Mahalo. Each time that happens, your rank goes down.
- If you submit links with malicious, pornographic, or other unacceptable content, your account will be banned.
- Please see Mahalo's Terms of Service for further explanation.
- Go to the profile page of your prospective friend.
- Click on the "Add as friend" option, under the profile image.
- You're now a fan of this person.
- You'll also see all of his or her links recommendations in the Friends' Recommended Links tab on your profile page.
- If this person adds you as a friend, your links will show up in the Friends' Recommended Links tab on his or her profile page.
- To update your friends and fans, just click on the "Manage Friends and Fans" option, which is right under your profile image.
- If you want to respond to a message that's already been posted, click on the subject line.
- Start a new topic by clicking on "Post a New Message."

Share Your Other Profiles
- You can also tell the world what other social sites you belong to!
- Click "Add Profiles."
- Type in your Profile URL for any or all of the following:
- Mahalo Greenhouse
- MySpace
- Log in to MySpace, then click on "Profile" to view your profile URL.
- Facebook
- Log in to Facebook, then click on "Profile" to view your profile URL.
- Flickr
- Log in to Flickr, then click on "My Photos" to view your profile URL.
- YouTube
- StumbleUpon
- Log in to StumbleUpon and you'll go directly to your profile URL.
- LinkedIn
- Go to your LinkedIn profile then click "Edit My Public profile" to view or set your profile URL.
- Pownce
- Digg
- Goodreads
- Faves
- Flixster
- Your own blog
- Then click "Add or Update Profile(s)."

Recommend Links
- If you find great links that should be on Mahalo, we want to know. There are three ways to recommend links on Mahalo:
- Submit the URL while on a Mahalo results page
- Submit the URL while on a Mahalo no results page
- With Mahalo Follow, submit sites as you come across them.
- We'll help you track which sites you've submitted: any site you recommend will now appear in your profile as well.

Recommend a link while on a Mahalo No Results Page
- If your search query isn't yet on Mahalo, you can still recommend results for the term. Your recommended link(s) will then create a stub (a short page) for that term.
- On a Mahalo no results page, scroll down to the "User Recommended Links" section (directly under "Related Mahalo Pages").
- Click where it says "Know a better link for...?"

Recommend a link with Mahalo Follow
- If you come across a great resource we should know about, use Mahalo Follow to let us know!

- In the toolbar, where it says "Would you recommend this link to a friend?," click on "Yes."

Track Others' Submissions to Mahalo
- Don't limit yourself to only keeping tabs on your recommended links. See what other people are recommending. It's a quick way to discover interesting links (and to see who's been recommending even more links than you).
- Visit the User Activity Board to see what other users are up to.
- The "Recommended Links for Pages" tab shows links that have been recommended to pages already on Mahalo.
- If someone recommends a link for a term Mahalo doesn't have, we create a short page (a stub) with that link. On "Recommended Links for Stubs" you can see what new pages users have created.
- Or visit the "Message Board Posts" tab to see messages that users have posted to Mahalo pages and stubs.
- Then visit the Mahalo Social Leaderboard to see who's been most successful at recommending links to Mahalo.
- Accepted Links shows who has had the most links accepted to pages on Mahalo.
- Recommended Links lists the users who have recommended the most links to Mahalo.
- Friends/Fans keeps track of who has the most friends and fans on Mahalo.
- Check the next section for tips on how to make more friends on Mahalo.

Find and Invite Friends
- Maybe you already know a Mahalo user. Or maybe you want to encourage other friends to join. Either way, Mahalo will help you connect.
- You can import your address book from Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Hotmail.
- Enter your email address.
- Type in your password.
- Click "Find Your Friends."
- We'll show you who from your address book is already a registered user.
- If you have friends in your email who aren't on Mahalo, you can select people to invite to Mahalo.
