Step 1: How a Cookie Press Works
A cookie press is used to make shaped cookies. The dough is inserted into a tube, and then squeezed through a plate with a cut out shape onto a cookie sheet. There are two types of cookie presses available. One requires you to twist the press to extrude the dough; the other has a handle that you squeeze. -
Step 2: How to Use a Cookie Press
- Fill the tube with dough. You can use premade sugar cookie dough, if you like. Most presses will take half a tube of dough.
- Select the plate you are using, and insert it into the cookie press. This may entail tightening a ring, depending on the press model.
- Pump or turn the handle until the dough is flush against the plate.
- Place the cookie press on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Pump the press twice, or twist a half turn.
- Lift the press, leaving the cookie on the sheet.e
