Nausea is characterized as stomach discomfort accompanied by an urge to vomit. Nausea can be a symptom of an underlying health problem or might be brought on by medication, motion sickness, vertigo, pregnancy, food poisoning, migraine headaches, anxiety, chemotherapy, or anaesthesia. Other conditions might also produce nausea. Examples include diabetes, [flu]], irritable bowel syndrome(IBS), and alcoholism. http://www.medicinenet.com/nausea/symptoms.htm
If nausea becomes persistent, lasting more than two days, you should consult your physician. There are plenty of OTC and prescription drugs for the treatment of nausea. However, before drug therapies become pervasive, herbs and essential oils were used to treat this malady. Introduction
Aromatherapy can be a gentle, non-invasive technique for treating nausea and other maladies. Because nausea can be a symptom of underlying health issues, you should contact your physician if nausea persists longer then two days or if vomiting persists more than eight hours. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dehydration/DS00561/DSECTION=symptoms Aromatherapy uses volatile plant oils extracted from the leaves, flowers, and/or stems of specific plants. These volatile oils are called essential oils because they are the essence of the plants from which they are extracted. http://www.aromaweb.com/articles/wharoma.asp Aromatherapy can work via fragrant influence and/or physical application. In rare circumstances, dilute essential oils may be ingested.Items you may need: Peppermint Essential Oil, Ginger Essential Oil, Nutmeg Essential Oil, Spearmint Essential Oil, Patchouly Essential Oil, carrier oil (this can be fractionated coconut oil, sesame seed oil, sweet almond oil, wheat germ oil, grapeseed oil. sunflower seed oil, olive oil, jojoba oil or any combination of these).

Step 1: Fragrant Influence
You may be able to keep your nausea at bay simply by inhaling the scents of the essential oils. Opinions vary as to the most effective Essential Oil, but the two top choices are Patchouli and Peppermint. Other choices include Ginger, Nutmeg, and Spearmint.. Place two to five drops on a tissue or cotton ball. Place the tissue of cotton ball in your hands. Cup your hands loosely over your nose and mouth, and breath in and out several times. Repeat as necessary.Alternatively, you can use an oil diffuser to maintain the aroma continuously for a longer time.http://www.diffuserworld.com/
Step 2: Topical Application
Another technique which you can try is topical application of the essential oils on your abdomen. You would mix 5-10 drops of an essential oil, like peppermint, in 20 ml of a carrier oil (such as grapeseed oil, for instance). If this is the first time you have used this essential oil, test a drop of this this mixture on the inside of your forearm. If you have an adverse reaction, dilute with more carrier oil (in abundance). If you have no adverse reaction, you may use 2-5 drops of the mixture on your lower abdomen, beneath your navel. While you can choose any of the recommended essential oils for this purpose, peppermint, spearmint, and patchouly seem to have the most effect, topically.http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-705-PEPPERMINT.aspx?activeIngredientId=705&activeIngredientName=PEPPERMINT&source=2Step 3: Ingestion
All of the essential oils recommended above are Generally Accepted as Safe (GRAS) and can be consumed, diluted, internally. By their nature, essential oils dilute best in oil-soluble liquids like soy milk, olive oil, or honey. However, dilute solutions can be made by adding one to five drops of essential oil to a gallon of water and shaking well. You can drink 6-8 ounces of the solution. Alternatively, you can use vegetable gel caps filled mostly with olive oil or honey and add one or two single drops of essential oil to the gel cap.http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/peppermint-000269.htmResources Powered by Google
