Step-by-Step Instructions
A toe drop is a very basic move that is generally taught during an introductory tap class. It's almost like a heel drop but in reverse.
1. Begin with your hands on your hips to help maintain your balance. With your right foot, dig your toe in the floor by stepping slightly forward and tapping your toe.
Be sure to tap on the ball of your toe and not on the top, as shown in the picture to the right.
2. With your toe on the floor and your heel up in the air, drop your heel.
3. Repeat this procedure with your left foot. Alternate your steps as if you were marching.
Put It into Practice
Option 1: To practice this move, do a toe drop followed by a ball change. So the pattern is: right toe, right heel, step back to the ball of your left foot then back to the ball of your right foot.
To repeat, you'll step with your left foot and put your left toe down then your left heel. Step back with your right foot then back to the ball of your left foot. Repeat this until you're comfortable with the sequence and everything flows smoothly.
Option 2: You can also practice by performing toe drops one right after the other as you move across the floor. In this case, the pattern is: right toe, right heel, left toe, left heel.
