Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Start by placing your hands on your hips to help maintain your balance. Pick up your right foot and raise it in the air behind you.
2. Do a brush forward with your right foot by brushing your toe across the floor.
3. Follow it with a quick brush backwards.
4. Hop on your standing left leg.
5. Finally, step down on your right foot.
6. Repeat these steps, beginning with your left foot up in the air.
When you're just beginning, it may be helpful to say "shuf-fle-hop-step" to coordinate with each part of the step.
Variations
Irish: Shuffle out to the side and cross back with your opposite foot.
Traveling: Use the hop portion of this step to propel you across the floor.
Add Pick Up Toe Heel: After completing your shuffle hop step, pick up the beginning foot and do a toe drop behind you.
Part of a Combination: This basic step can be added and combined with pretty much any other step in tap. Get creative and put together your own combination of taps, drops and stomps.
