Introduction
- You didn't see the cop when you ran that red light, but he saw you. Once you've paid the ticket, you have a choice in some jurisdictions: Receive a blot on your record and watch your car insurance rates skyrocket, or go to traffic school. Since so many folks unintentionally commit moving violations, and since most insurance companies will penalize you for them, many states offer traffic school as a way to clear your driving record. Generally, to participate, you can only have committed a certain number of violations per year.
- Traffic school used to consist of rote traffic law recitation so dull, some candidates preferred to suffer an increase in insurance! But now, it seems, there is a school for every taste. No matter which one you choose, signing up is pretty simple:

- You may have to pay a separate fee just to request to attend traffic school.
- Typically, you will include the request with your bail.
- The jurisdiction may then send you a list of eligible traffic schools. Otherwise, you can find a list of schools online or in a directory.
