Introduction
- An affiliate site is a web site with links to companies that will pay you a commission if a user clicks through to their site from yours, and makes a purchase. While you are not likely to replace your day job with the income you generate, and can be a simple way to make extra money.
Step 1: Create a Website
Step 2: Select a Niche for Your Affiliate Site
- You need to think like a business when selecting your niche. This is not a personal blog; it should be focused to attract readers who will be interested in the products you are hosting affiliate links for. Make sure there are affiliate products that you can incorporate into your site. Parenting sites could add links to toys;cooking sites can link to kitchen equipment, for example.
Step 3: Build Traffic to Your Site
- To earn money as an affiliate marketer, you need people to visit your site, click through, and buy. To build traffic to your site, you need to get the word out that you're there, and have valuable things to say.
- Join forums and online communities in your niche. Comment often, to develop credibility, and include a link to your site with your signature.
- Post comments on other blogs in your niche, when you have something valuable to say. (Posting a comment with just your link is considered spammy behavior, and frowned upon.)
- Read other blogs in your niches, commenting when you have value to, and linking back to your blog.
- Carefully select keywords and phrases that will improve your search rankings.
- Promote your content by using Digg, Stumble Upon, or Twitter, where appropriate.
Step 4: Add Affiliate Links to Your Site
- After you've established a credible presence with a following, you can join affiliate programs.
- Select a program or two to begin with, carefully reading the terms and conditions
- Incorporate their links into your site without detracting from your content. You want your audience to keep coming back, and not be discouraged by seeing more ads than content.
- Continue to add fresh content regularly.
- Don't place too many links on a page, as that might cause search engines to see your site as spam
