How to Set Realistic Goals
Use this video to help you to make sure you are setting goals that you can actually accomplish. This video gives a visual demonstration of how you can make sure that the goals you are setting are realistic and that you can accomplish them in the time frame that you have allotted yourself.

Introduction
Goals are based on dreams. Now is the time to dream and leave out words like "impossible" as they serve no purpose here. Once you understand that you can accomplish whatever you want if you simply take the right steps, no goal becomes too large. So, start by daydreaming a bit and trying to see yourself and where you want to be in the future. This will help you narrow down the focus of your goals as well. Knowing how to set goals is the first step in this process. -
Step 1: Deciding on a Goal
Now that you know where your dreams lead you, it's time to figure out how to get there. Pick a goal to work on and narrow it down into smaller goals. This is also an excellent part of learning how to be successful. For instance, if you want to learn how to be a life coach, you obviously aren't going to walk in tomorrow and demand the position. Find out what's needed to get where you want to be. In fact, part of your goal process should be finding information. Make a list of the information you need to acquire in order to meet your goals. -
Step 2: Prioritizing and Timing
While most of us tend to be very motivated when we first decide how to set goals, there are certain steps that must be followed in order to actually follow through with the goal. For one, there needs to be a list of priorities. Browse through the list and figure out which part is most important and which is least. For instance, if you need to register for school in order to meet your goals, then finding out registration dates and qualifications should be top priority while the need to relocate to meet the end goal should be the last priority until you get closer to the goal. -
Step 3: Break it Down
The goals on the list right now may look quite lofty. In fact, they may make you want to give up entirely! But, there is a way to make them manageable. Break down the existing goals into smaller ones that can be accomplished in a day or a week. Following through with the theme of going back to school, it would be a wise choice to make it a weekly goal to gather information on what to do to go back to school or gathering the required paperwork to submit. -
-
Step 4: Create Daily Motivation
Once the goals are broken down into measurable and manageable terms, it's time to make daily goals. This is a great way to keep your motivation. Create goals that you can meet each day. At the end of the day, mark off the goals that have been achieved and reset any that haven't so that they can be used later on in the week. Seeing the goals being accomplished goes a long way toward reminding yourself that you are one step closer to your end goal! -
