Learning to speak a foreign language can be challenging. But if you begin with basic phrases and sentences, you can quickly develop a dialogue and learn to converse fluently. You may have several reasons for your interest in learning French, whether they be career driven or due to a desire to travel. Whatever they may be, learning to say introductory phrases such as how to say "Nice to meet you" in French is essential to learning how to establish a proper dialogue and learn to comfortably carry a conversation in French.
How to Say 'Nice to Meet You' in French
In this video series Margaret Frances teaches you common French words and phrases. In this video we learn how to tell someone 'Nice to meet you'. This is part of a much wider series of tutorials about the French language, which are published for free on the Mahalo.com channel on YouTube.
Step 1: Listen To The Phrase In French
A key factor in learning to speak in French is to listen and hear the sounds that are pronounced when someone is speaking. This allows you to hear what sound each letter makes, and will help you to speak the sound yourself. By listening first, you can hear how the words are supposed to be spoken. Listen to the video instructor say the phrase "Nice to meet you" or “Enchanté” (on-shohn-tay). http://www.french-at-a-touch.com/Words-Phrases/basic_phrases_links.htm This translates to enchanted or glad to meet you. Replay the video as many times as needed, so that you are comfortable with the pronunciation of the phrase.
Step 2: Speak The Phrase In French
Once you have listened to the phrase and how it is to be pronounced, it's time to speak it aloud. It may sound a little odd at first, but you need to continue practicing until you can mimic the pronunciation that you hear in the video. By saying the phrase out loud, you allow yourself to hear and adjust your pronouncement to copy that of the instructor. Repeatedly say the phrase aloud, until you can say it comfortably and as a fluid sound. Now that you have learned to say "Enchanté", you can place it into a dialogue along with other phrases. http://www.tolearnfrench.com/exercises/exercise-french-2/exercise-french-5751.php

After you have learned several phrases in French, it's important to place them into a dialogue. By doing so, you become even more comfortable using the phrases, and being able to respond to someone when they are speaking to you in French.
