How to Reset an iPad

If you ever experience any difficulties with your iPad, you may want to learn how to reset it. The iPad, produced by Apple, is a tablet computer with touch-screen capability that was first released in April 2010. http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/10772.html Like any consumer electronic, the iPad may still have bugs or problems that occur when it tries to process large amounts of data.

Though not necessary during normal operation, there may be situations where you need to reset your iPad. It may be slowing down in performance, or it may stop functioning altogether. If you notice your iPad reacting sluggish to screen touches, or if certain functions are not working, or if the tablet freezes completely, a reset may be in order.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5dgYD5NNMY

Step 1: Locate the Buttons on the iPad

Even though the iPad uses an on-screen keyboard and is mostly controlled with the touch screen, it still has some physical buttons that are needed to reset the device. First, locate the following buttons on your iPad:

  • "Home" button: an indented button on the front of the iPad below the screen
  • "Sleep/Wake" (or power) button: located at the top of the device
  • Silencer toggle switch: located next to the Sleep/Wake button
  • Volume rocker switch: located next to the silencer switchhttp://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/188090/hands_on_with_the_ipad.html

Step 2: Reset the iPad

Many of the iPad's performance problems can be fixed with a "soft reset." To perform a reset on the iPad, first press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button for about three seconds. This will force your iPad to power off. The screen backlight will dim, and a red button appears with a message reading, "Slide to power off."

Slide the red button from left to right, which will force your iPad to reset. This might take a few seconds, so be patient.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5dgYD5NNMY

Step 3: Restart the iPad

Now that your iPad is off, wait for approximately 10 seconds. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again for about three seconds. This should restart your iPad, freeing up any programs that were inhibiting its performance before.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5dgYD5NNMY

If this "soft reset" does not work, you can try a hard reset. For this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds. After the ten seconds, the Apple logo appears, and your iPad will have performed a hard reset.http://www.hard-reset.com/apple-ipad-hard-reset.html

Step 4: Erase All Content and Settings

If you are trying to reset the content or settings on your iPad, you have two options: erasing your settings only, or erasing all settings and all content. To erase settings only, choose General > Reset, then tap "Reset All Settings." All your preferences and settings are reset. Your information, such as your contacts and calendars, and media, such as your iTunes songs and videos, are not deleted.http://www.pctipsbox.com/how-to-format-reset-delete-all-settings-for-ipad/

To erase all iPad contents and settings, choose General > Reset, then tap “Erase All Content and Settings.” This resets all settings to their original values and erases all your information and media.http://www.pctipsbox.com/how-to-format-reset-delete-all-settings-for-ipad/
