Once you get blood on your clothing or carpets, it can be difficult to get out. There are tricks, however, that can help you make blood spots vanish. Read on to learn how to remove blood stains.
If you scrape yourself, accidentally cut yourself or get a bloody nose, the bright red blood can easily find its way to your clothes, sheets, towels or carpets. Once this happens, things usually won't come clean with just a run through the washing machine, or even with a good soak. The tips below will help you get rid of the stain effectively, and salvage your bloody items.
How to Remove Stains with Hydrogen Peroxide
Removing Blood from Clothing, Sheets and Towels
Method 1: Soak in cold water, then saturate the stain with laundry soap. Scrub vigorously. Rinse with cold water, then repeat until the stain is gone. Launder when finished.
- Method 2: Soak in cold water. Pour salt on the stain, and rub until the stain lightens, and eventually disappears. Launder when finished.
- Method 3: Use a spot treatment directly on the stain, according to package instructions. Then soak in cold water, and launder.
- Method 4: Soak the stain in soda water or seltzer. Then scrub with soap and launder.
- Note: never use hot water, as it will "set" the blood stain
Removing Blood from Carpets
- Blot the stain with a towel. Do not use pressure.
- Cover the stain with salt.
- When salt has absorbed the blood, carefully sweep it up.
- Douse with club soda
- Blot clean
- If there is still a stain, use a spot carpet cleaner
- If there is still a stain, use a bit if ammonia (test a small, out of the way portion of carpet first, to make sure it will not cause any damage).
