Registering as a member of the Democratic party is as easy as registering to vote. In fact, it is the exact same process. This guide on how to register as a Democrat will show you how to officially register as a member of the party you support.

Introduction
- You may have already registered as a member of a specific party when you registered to vote; some states require that you do, while others do not. If you want to change your party registration, or declare yourself a member of the Democratic party if you have not already done so, the process is simple. The benefit of registering with a specific party is that you will be allowed to vote in the primaries.
Step 1: Ensure You Qualify
- As long as you can legally vote in the U.S., you can register as a Democrat. To be eligible to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen and be at least 18 years old.
Step 2: Fill Out an Application
- To register as a Democrat, all you need to do is re-register to vote by filling out a voter registration form. There are several ways you can do so:
- Register online at RockTheVote.com
- Download and print off an application from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission website
- Contact your local Secretary of State or elections department for an application form. Some states will allow you to fill out a form online
- Register at your town or city hall or at the County Clerk's office
- Register to vote while renewing your driver's license at the DMV
- Pick up a registration form from your local post office
Step 3: Wait for Your Registration Card
- Six to eight weeks after submitting your registration, you should receive your voter registration card in the mail. As long as you filled out your application form correctly, you are now registered as a Democrat.
Conclusion
- The only way to register as a member of the Democratic Party is to fill out another voter registration form. You can fill out the form online, or visit one of the locations listed above to obtain a paper form. Once you have submitted your completed form, you will receive a new voter registration card in the mail within a couple of months.
