How to Protect Your Tweets on Twitter Video Lesson
This is a video lesson on protecting your tweets by Chris Gore. He uses his mother as an example of someone he would not like to follow him on Twitter.
Step 1: Protect Your Tweets
Joining Twitter does not mean you have to make yourself an open book to the world. The first step you can take to protect your tweets is to make your Twitter profile private. On the upper right corner of your Twitter homepage, you will see the "Settings" option. Click on this hyperlink. You will then be taken to the "Settings" page. Just above the "Save" button, you will see a checkbox called "Protect my tweets." After you check the box, your tweets will no longer be available to people who are not your followers. While your new tweets will no longer be available to the public, your old tweets may still be available.http://support.twitter.com/entries/14016-about-public-and-protected-accounts
Step 2: Remove Unwanted Followers
Since you joined Twitter, you may have had too liberally allowed people to follow you. Even after you check the checkbox option to protect your tweets, your old and new followers will still be able to read your tweets. To feel safe from unwanted or unknown followers, click on the "Followers" hyperlink on your Twitter homepage. You will then see a list of your followers. Each entry would be shown with two buttons. Click on the button with the clock wheel. Use the drop-down menu to block or remove an unwanted or unknown follower.
Step 3: Screen New Followers
After you choose to protect your tweets, people will no longer be able to follow you automatically. They would need to request your approval first. When someone requests to follow you, you will receive a note asking if you would like to allow this person to follow you or not.http://support.twitter.com/entries/14016-about-public-and-protected-accounts Before you allow anyone to follow you, be sure that you really feel comfortable to let this person to read your tweets.
