Introduction
- If you want to promote yourself, consider doing it on MySpace. MySpace has millions of users, which means your page has the potential to be read by a huge amount of people around the world. While MySpace was not designed for promotion but for networking, the connections and publicity you can get on MySpace can help you to promote your business or career. Just make sure to read and follow the terms and conditions, as many types of promotions, such as commercials and links to affiliate sites, is forbidden.

Step 1: Joining MySpace
- If you have not joined MySpace already, start by doing so.
- A valid email address is required.
- MySpace has special profiles for comedians, musicians and filmmakers. Click on Sign Up. Then click on "If you are a Musician/Comedian/Filmmaker, Sign up here" under Profile Types if any of these applies to you.
- Enter the requested information.
- You will receive a confirmation email from MySpace. Click on the link in it to sign up.
- After signing up, you will be able to customize the profile.

- Next, start to build up your profile page. An attractive and accessible profile page is important if you want to use it for promotion.
- Add a picture of yourself to the main page and upload several other pictures of yourself as well.

Step 3: Making and Adding Friends
- To promote yourself on MySpace, you need to build up a network of friends.

- Next, make new friends on MySpace. Join groups or forums and start networking.
Step 4: Make Yourself Heard
- In order to promote yourself on MySpace, you need to be an active member in the community and promote your MySpace profile outside the community as well.
- Update your profile page often.
- Send out invites for people to join MySpace.
- Link to your MySpace profile on your homepage, blog and other online sites.
Step 5: Restrictions
MySpace is designed mainly for social networking. Celebrities such as musicians also use MySpace, but more for indirect promotion such as getting their name and music out. Actual commercials and links to affiliate sites are prohibited without prior authorization from MySpace. Gathering email addresses to send out unsolicited emails is forbidden as well.
