Restylane is a cosmetic treatment along the lines of Botox, used to smooth wrinkles and plump up skin and lips. Though relatively simple, Restylane is still a medical procedure. This guide will walk you through how to prepare for Restylane.

Introduction
- Restylane is an injectable dermal filler most often used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to plump lips. To prepare for a Restylane treatment, you should know what a treatment consists of, what medications you should avoid prior to treatment, what side effects are possible, and what the recovery process entails.
Step 1: Learn About the Treatment
- Restylane treatments are very quick, normally taking less than 30 minutes.
- Your doctor will use a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area. If you are having your lips treated, you will receive additional anesthetic to prevent pain in this sensitive area.
- Restylane is injected into the skin in small amounts via a very fine needle.
- Treatment results can be seen immediately.
Step 2: Things to Avoid
- You should avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, including aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS) for approximately 10 days before and 24 hours after your treatment to help reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. You should also avoid St. John's Wort and high doses of Vitamin E. If you are on any prescription medications, ask your doctor if you should continue taking them as normal.
Step 3: Possible Side Effects
- Restylane's side effects are generally mild. The most common include redness, swelling, pain, tenderness and/or bruising at the injection site. Lip treatments can leave your lips swollen or misshapen for several days following treatment.
