An Apprentice and a Mentor...
This is a video showing a tiny puppy following an older dog's example...it is a natural method of how we all learn - by example and by observing and following our mentors. You may not have the luck of such a wonderful older dog to be the teacher for your puppy - but by providing (when your puppy is old enough and has had all her vaccinations) some exposure to other friendly dogs who will do natural doggy things like this dogs just did - your pup will have valuable life lessons that only other dogs can teach them.
Along with the many joys of a bringing home a new puppy, you also have the huge responsibility of potty training your pup. It is a process that will involve patience and understanding on your part, and can take anywhere from six months to a year.
The videos collected on this page are some of the best online resources that will give you an overview of potty training your puppy. Training Tips
Set up routine feeding and potty times
Be consistent with the routine
Take your puppy outside right after their nap or after playing
No water two hours before bedtime
Praise your puppy when he goes outside
Go to the same area each time
Try to establish a potty command word
Consider using a clicker to assist in marking desired behavior and then rewarding the behavior with praise or treats
When Accidents Happen
Startle—but do not discipline—the puppy to stop going
Immediately take (carry or gently direct) the puppy outside to finish
Praise the puppy for finishing up outside (gently use your voice and touch as praise, you can also use a clicker to mark the desired good behavior ie eliminating outside, then praise with voice, treats, toys)
Do not yell at or punish the puppy when he has an accident
If possible, place soiled materials in the potty spot to teach the puppy where to go
