This video is one of a series focusing on how to learn to play songs on the Piano, which are published on the Mahalo.com channel of YouTube.
Step 1: Learn the Chords
D: The D chord is formed using the notes D, F# and A played with your right hand. Use your left thumb and pinky to play the octave D notes in the bass.
A: Form the A chord by playing the notes A, C# and E using the thumb, middle finger and pinky of your right hand. Play the A notes in the bass using your left hand.
B minor: The notes used to form B minor chord are B, D and F#. Play these notes with your right hand while playing the octave B with your left hand.
C: To play the C chord, play the notes C, E, and G using your right hand and an octave C with your left hand.
G: Create the G chord using your right hand to play G, B, and D. Follow the same octave pattern by playing a G in the bass.
F: The F chord consists of the notes F, A, and C. Play these notes with your thumb, middle finger and pinky of your right hand as well as the corresponding F note in the bass with your left hand.
It is a good idea to learn the chords with your right hand before adding the octave notes.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrUs8hU6QGI&feature=player_embedded
Step 2: Practice Transitioning
Once you know how to play each chord in the song, practice transitioning from one to the next. The verse is played by pulsing the D chord. You can alternate the D octaves in the base to add variety to the song. Transition to the A chord during the lyric "Big wheels keep on turning." Transition from A to B minor during the lyric "Proud Mary keep on rolling." Return to the D for "Rolling, rolling, rolling down the river." The entire song follows this same pattern.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrUs8hU6QGI&feature=player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrUs8hU6QGI&feature=player_embedded
Step 3: Learn the Intro
Once you are comfortable with playing the verses and the chorus, practice the chord progression for the intro. The pattern is C, A, C, A, C, A, G, F, G, and D. Start by playing the chords slowly to get the pattern into your head. Once you are comfortable moving from one chord to the next, practice the introduction in tempo and then with the rest of the song.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrUs8hU6QGI&feature=player_embedded
