"How Many More Times" is a great song to learn for advanced-level guitarists. It incorporates classic blues riff playing with several complicated strumming styles. The song opens with a swung bass riff that the guitar doubles up on (let's call this "Riff #1"). Then moves into faster, syncopated strumming patterns on the open D and A chords between riffs when the vocals come in.
For the solo section, you can improvise using the E
minor pentatonic scale. After the solo section, several measures of triplet strumming occurs before there's another guitar riff on the low E and A strings (this will be called "Riff #2"). The song then returns to the intro (riff #1). The form follows this pattern:
- Intro (Riff #1)
- Riff #1 (with vocals)
- Solo breakdown (alternate between E and D chords during guitar solo)
- Triplet strumming section/spaced out interlude
- Riff #2 (with vocals)
- Brief vocal break
- Riff #1 (with vocals)
