Form of the Song
"Help I'm Alive" is the first single by electronic rock band, Metric, from the Canadian group's fourth album, Fantasies. The single has a No Doubt/'90s pop sound mixed with modern electronic rock, using heavy drum beats and repetition.
The 2008 single was rerecorded in an acoustic version. The song has been featured in video games, as well as several teen television shows, including 90210 and Vampire Diaries.
The acoustic version of the song uses a more intricate strumming pattern than the electronic version. The original version is drum and vocal-driven, whereas the acoustic version puts focus on the guitar. There are six chords throughout the song, all of which are basic, except the Asus2 chord, which deviates slightly from a basic A chord.
