How To Play Fix You By Coldplay On Piano
In this video, Katy teaches you how to play Fix You by Coldplay. This is a longer clip and runs for almost ten minutes, but Katy goes into a lot of detail and shows you exactly what to do. You'll be able to see exactly what notes she's playing thanks to a helpful overhead camera view.
Step 1: Left Hand
Since a piano's keyboard goes from lower pitched notes on the left to higher pitched notes on the right, your left hand will be playing the bass line for this song. You'll need to start on E Flat and play individual notes as opposed to chords. While the video above shows you the entire bass line sequence, you'll progress from E flat on the first note to F and G on the second and third notes.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPTyXel6Jdg
Step 2: Right Hand
Once you've mastered the bass line, you can move on to learning the melody on the right hand. Your first chord is an E minor chord, and you'll move on from there to a G minor add sixth chord. To play this chord, you simply add an E minor with your pinky finger to a regular G minor chord. The next chord is a C minor, and you'll move onto a G minor add sixth after that.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPTyXel6Jdg
Step 3: Combining the Bass Line and Melody
To play the complete version of the song, you'll need to put the bass line from your left hand together with the melody from your right hand. It may take some practice, but you may find that the bass and melody sections come together more smoothly once you've taken the time to memorize them. One way to play with both hands before you've learned the entire song is to play one note on one hand while playing all the notes on the other. This may help you transition from single handed playing to the full song.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPTyXel6Jdg
