Step 3: Choosing Classes:
Dark Age of Camelot offers a wide variety of character classes and sub-classes. Based on the character race and the realm you choose to play on, picking up a class is the next step. We can classify the classes available in the game in 5 categories, judging on their abilities and their role in the game:
- Tanks: Tanks are close ranged fighters, wearing haviest armors and they can’t inflict ranged damage. While they play in a party their main role is to protect non-tanks classes. In Dark Age of Camelot tanks can be divided in 2 sub-classes:
- Heavy tanks – Using one handed weapons and shields in PvE and two handed weapons in RvR. Heavy tanks are: Armsman (in Albion), Hero (in Hibernia) and Warrior (in Midgard).
- Light Tanks – Their damage is bigger, can dual wield weapons but their armor is lower. Light Tanks classes are: Mercenary (in Albion), Blademaster (in Hibernia), Berserker and Savage (in Midgard).
- Healers: Healers are specialized in casting healing spells while in a party. This is their main role and many classes in the game have a healing spell. However the primary healers are: Clerics (in Albion), Bards and Druids (in Hibernia), Healers and Shamans (in Midgard).
- Rogues: Rogues or stealth classes wear medium armor. Their weapons are mainly daggers and have the possibility to become invisible. This ability is useful on RvR because they can gather information’s on the battlefield and they can decide when to attack. This class also has 2 sub-classes: archers and assassins. Just like healers some hybrid classes can learn stealth but primary rogues are: Infiltrators and Scouts (in Albion), Nightshades and Rangers (in Hibernia), Hunters and Shadowblades (in Midgard).
- Casters: Casters wear the lowest armor but they inflict the biggest damage. They can cast spells with direct damage or with damage over time. While they are casting spells they can be interrupted and a caster is the first target in RvR. Almost all classes can learn how to use magic but only few are using this ability as primary weapon:
- Mixed classes: These category offers a combination between ranged and closed combat skills which allow you to combine a warrior with a caster or with a healer. Every realm has its unique mixed classes:
- In Albion you can choose from: Friars, Heretics, Maulers, Minstrels, Paladins and Reavers.
- InHibernia you can play with: Champions, Valewalkers, Wardens, and Vampiirs.
- In Midgard we have 3 mixed classes: Skalds, Thanes and Valkyrie.
Dark Age of Camelot has 47 classes, each of them with unique design, skills, abilities, spells and many more…
Step 4: Choosing a server:
Dark Age of Camelot offers 5 server types. In the game you have the possibility to test the upcoming changes, fight with other players or just focus on your character. Here is the server list:
- Normal Server: On this server PvP battles are allowed only in designated zones. You should choose this one if you would like to focus on quests but you also want to fight some other players.
- Classic Server: Some abilities, items and PvE areas are not available. The interesting fact on this server is that you can receive a buff only if you are grouped with the caster and near him.
- PvP Server: Using this server will allow you to travel to all realms. Other players can attack you no matter what race or class you are. The combat is allowed in almost all areas. Use this server only if you played this game before.
- CO-OP Server: Is the server on which RvR areas have been modified. Players from all the realms are now fighting against NPC controlled by computer. You can teleport between the realms and play with your friends in order to conquer keeps.
- Test Server: If you pick this server you will have the chance to test the changes that will take place in the game, before they are implemented.
