How to Play an E Note on Bass Guitar Video Guide
Charles Mumford of the rock band Final Gravity is your Mahalo guru to playing the bass guitar. He reveals why the E note is his favorite note on the bass guitar. He then walks you through all the E notes that can be played on an extended-length bass guitar.
Step 1: Low E
The easiest note to play on the bass guitar is the E note. That's because you only need to pluck, pick, slap or pop the topmost string to play the deepest E note of the bass guitar. This is the deepest sound the bass guitar, the deepest-sounding of all guitars, can produce.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COm-KE0DS74&feature=player_embedded#! If you want to go an octave higher, you just press on the same string on the 12th fret. If your bass guitar has 24 frets, you can go an octave higher further, of course, by pressing on the 24th fret.
Step 2: Middle E
You can use the two middle strings to produce the second deepest E, equivalent to the 12th-fret pluck on the top or 1st string. The 2nd string from the top plucks on the 7th fret, and the 3rd string plucks on the 2nd fret. On these respective frets, the three strings produce the same pitch of E, the second deepest standard bass guitar E note. While they will differ in tonal qualities, they will play on the same pitch.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COm-KE0DS74&feature=player_embedded#!
Step 3: High E
The next higher E note can be played by the 2nd string on the 19th fret, the 3rd string on the 14th fret, and the 4th or bottommost string on the 9th fret. You may use the 12th fret, the "double dots" and the other dots as a reference to guide your way to these higher frets. The highest E on the bass guitar is played by the 4th string on the 21st fret.
