Acey deucey poker can refer to a number of poker variations, including a home game similar to five-card draw, but with aces and deuces wild, a casino game which pays highly for a player holding four aces or four deuces or an informal home where each player predicts if a card will rank between two other exposed cards. The games are fairly simple to learn. To learn more about these card games, read on to find out how to play acey deucey poker.
In the popular home game, the gameplay is virtually identical to that of five-card draw. Each player bets an ante amount, which, like the stakes, can vary based on table preference. The dealer gives each player five cards, allowing them to trade in either three or four of the cards with new ones in the deck. Betting proceeds and follows the exchange, then all players show their cards and the player with the highest-ranking hand wins the pot. What makes this game unique is the ability to make higher-ranking hands, like a five of a kind, using the wild cards, aces and deuces.
The gameplay of the casino version is also identical to that of five-card draw, however there are no wild cards. The difference comes that players compete against the house rather than other players, receiving a payout based on the five-card hand they create. Payouts for four of a kind using aces and deuces are typically paid lower than a standard four-of-a-kind hand.http://wizardofodds.com/videopoker/tables/aceydeucey.html
In the informal home game, which is also commonly played as a drinking game and can be called in between or red dog, players have to predict if the next card from the top of the deck will rank in between the ranks of two face-up cards. If the player is correct, he or she will win their bet amount from the center pot. Should they guess wrong, they will lose their bet.http://www.poker.com/game/non-poker-games/inbetween.htm
Featured Video: Acey Deucey Poker Basics
As two of the three versions of acey deucey poker are very similar to standard five-card draw, this video shows the basics of the game. Johnny Ferrell from Expert Village explains that each player receives five cards, then, after a betting round, has the chance to exchange a portion of their cards. The goal is to create the best five-card hand, using a standard method of ranking cards from high to low.
Classic Acey Deucey Poker
This game, which is most often only seen at home games, is almost identical to five-card draw, however played with eight wild cards, including four aces and four deuces.
- Each player bets an ante amount. This can vary based on table preferences, but should be much smaller than the minimum bet amount.
- The dealer gives each player five cards, all face down.
- Starting with the player to the immediate left of the dealer, a round of betting follows with each player permitted to check, bet, call, raise or fold.
- Again starting one seat clockwise from the dealer, each player may discard up to three of their cards, four cards if they are holding an ace. The dealer gives each player new cards to recreate their five-card hand.
- A second and final round of betting follows, again allowing each player to check, bet, call, raise or fold.
- Should more than one player remain at this point, each player flips their cards face up to show their best hand. The player with the best hand wins the pot using hand rankings as follows:

| Royal Flush | A, K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit | ||||||
| Straight Flush | Five cards in numerical sequence of the same suit | ||||||

| Four of a Kind | Four cards with the same rank | ||||||

In-Between Acey Deucey Poker
While rarely seen in casinos, this version, also called red dog or between the sheets, requires players to predict cards rather than for their best poker hand.
- The dealer gives the player two cards, both face up on the table.
- The player looks at the cards and decides to bet or fold, based on if he or she thinks the card on the top of the deck will rank within the two face-up cards. For example, if a deuce and seven are showing, the player will be that the next card will be a three, four, five or six.
- Should the player decide to bet, the dealer flips a third card face up on the table.
- If the card ranks between the initial two cards dealt, the player's bet is returned along with the same amount from out of the center pot.
- If the card does not rank between the initial two, the player loses his or her bet, placing it into the center pot.
- If the third card is the same rank as one of the two previously dealt, the player is forced to pay double his initial bet, placing it in the pot.
- The game continues with each player competing against the dealer either for a set amount of time, in minutes or until the deck is depleted, or until the pot is emptied.http://www.poker.com/game/non-poker-games/inbetween.htm
Casino Acey Deucey Poker
This version, which can be seen in video poker machines, is played in casinos, with the player competing against the house rather than other players. The game is very similar to standard five-card draw, however if a player obtains a four of a kind using aces or deuces, the payout is smaller than a four of a kind using any other rank.
- The player bets a nominal amount as regulated by the video poker machine or table minimum.
- The dealer gives each player five cards, all face down.
- The player may exchange three of their cards, four if they are holding an ace, with the dealer, receiving the same number of new cards from the deck.
- The five-card hand is flipped up, if playing at a table, and the dealer or poker machine determines how the hand ranks.
- If the player obtains a minimum hand of a pair of jacks or better, the player is paid based on their bet amount and strength of hand. Payouts will vary based on the casino or video poker machine.
