How to Play A Major on Guitar

The A Major chord is a chord that may give beginner guitar players some difficulty at first because three fingers have to fit in the same fret. There are some different methods of playing this chord but this guide will explain the most common way. Read on to learn how to play A Major on guitar.

Introduction

All Major chords are essential to guitar players and should be among the first things that a beginner should learn. The A major chord is found in the A Major Scale. It is made up of three notes from this scale: A, C#, and E. These notes are also referred to as the root (A), the major third (C#), and the perfect fifth (E). When playing this chord in the first position there are two other notes also played: an open A (fifth string) and an open E (first string). Learning the A Major Chord can take a beginner guitar player some time but once mastered, it can be an extremely useful chord. Step 1:

Place your first finger on the fourth string on the second fret (perfect fifth, E).

Step 2:
