What is a B-Flat Minor Chord?
The B-flat (Bb) minor chord is formed from the first, the third and the fifth notes of the Bb minor scale.
The Bb minor chord is similar to a B major chord except that its third is lowered a half-step. Lowering the third makes the chord sound "sad" or "dark" instead of happy. You'll need to know how to play minor chords in order to play many of your favorite songs. The notes in the Bb minor chord, from lowest to highest, are Bb, Db and F.

Play Bb Minor in Progression with Other Chords
Once you get the hang of playing the Bb minor chord in its different inversions, try playing it as part of a sequence of other chords. Chord sequences are also called harmonic progressions.
A basic sequence in tonal music is to go from a tonic to a subdominant to a dominant chord, then resolve back to the tonic.c In the case of Bb minor, the tonic chord is Bb minor, the subdominant is Eb major, and the dominant is F major. Try learning this sequence of chords. When you can play this sequence smoothly, try exploring other chord sequences.
Bb minor-based chord progressions are used in the Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson song Say, Say, Say.c
