In this video, Mahalo wedding expert Kat Keane shows you how to plan your wedding by booking a hair stylist.
Ask for a Referral
If your normal hair stylist doesn't specialize in weddings, ask for a referral to one who does. Also ask your friends and family, especially those who have recently had to plan or help out with weddings. If none of those options pan out, search online for local hair stylists that specialize in weddings.
See the Look Book
No matter who you choose, flip through the stylists look book or take a look at their portfolio on their website. You want to make sure that he or she fits with your own personal style and what you want for your wedding. Make sure that you both are on the same page for what you want.
Do a Trial Run
About four months before your wedding, schedule a trial run with your stylist. Make sure you bring photos of what you want your hair to look like so your stylist has something to refer to. Also, bring all the clips and accents you want put in your hair so that everything including the veil is perfectly planned.
Take Photos
Bring a camera to your trial run and take pictures of the finished hair style from every angle. You can then refer to these photos on your wedding day when you're getting ready.
Plan Ahead
If you can afford it, have your hair stylist come to your venue on the day of the wedding to do your hair. If you can't, make sure you plan enough time to drive (or have someone else drive) back from the salon and get to your wedding on time. Nothing is worse than running late in traffic on your wedding day.
