If your child loves the Backyardigans, why not have this as the theme of their birthday party this year. In this guide, parents will see how to plan a Backyardigans theme party for their child. http://www.amazingmoms.com/htm/party-backyardigans-birthday.htm
Preschoolers and children in the earlier years of elementary school seem to love the Backyardigans. Pablo, Tyrone, Uniqua, Tasha, and Austin turn every day in their backyard into an adventure through their imagination. http://kidstvmovies.about.com/od/thebackyardigans/a/backyc.htm
The five Backyardigans characters are a loveable imaginative group of friends. Pablo a blue penguin is the leader in the imaginary trips the gang takes while Tyrone the moose goes along for the ride. Tyrone is a laid-back type of moose. Uniqua is the pink polka dotted creature who is sweet and kind to everyone. Tasha is a bit stubborn and likes to get her way, and is the only one of the creatures to wear shoes. Austin is a newer creature in the neighborhood and rarely takes on the role of leader, much to Pablo’s dismay. http://treehousetv.com/watch/shows/Backyardigans/default.aspx
You can print off coloring sheets for the kids, or allow them to watch videos of their favorite characters. A parent can even play some boring party games, but to excite the children take them on a backyard adventures Backyardigans style.
Step 1 The Decorations
The decorations for a Backyardigans party need to be in the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue. Balloons of the creatures can be found in department stores as well as dollar stores around the nation. It’s always a good idea to mix the character balloons with regular balloons.
Images from the Internet of the Backyardigans can be downloaded from the internet and use on invitations as well as party decorations. To use these images on invitations is easy, and some of them make the invitations appear to be store-bought. These images can also be printed off and hung on the walls, while smaller images can be used as party favors for the favor bags. http://www.disneyclips.com/imagesnewb6/backyardigans.html
Bug catchers from the dollar store can be a decorative touch, and they double as an activity at the party and a take home gift. Before the party begins, set the bug catchers on the table for each child. The host can add stickers to the containers. Be sure to add a child’s name to each.
The favor bags can contain little stickers of the characters of the show, goldfish, gummy candy, and other small things. You can set the favor bags in the bug catchers and remove them when the kids use it as an activity at the party.
Step 2 The Moose Adventure Activities
The characters of the Backyardigans television show have adventures around the backyard with their creative imaginations. It’s a good idea to allow the little ones to have these types of adventures in a host’s backyard. Allow the little ones to take a nature hike, with supervision of course and let them pretend to be explorers in a safe environment.
Tell them they will be playing a game to help Tyrone. Moose food is good for Tyrone, and he is hungry and needs help. They need to find the food and go deliver it.
Hang sheets on the clothesline to create a fort with four walls, have story time in there. Imagination is the key here, and the walls of sheets can be the walls of a castle. Hand the kids their bug catchers and tell them to add moose food in there.
These bug catchers do not only have to hold bugs, they can hold a pinecone, a white rock, a clover, and even a dandelion. These items are pretend moose food. After the kids find the ‘food items’ they can do an obstacle course that ends with them driving a kiddy car to feed the moose.
An obstacle course is also a fun idea to help burn off some of the energy that is associated with a birthday party. Have the kids run around a tree, to the slide on a swing set, then they could slide down and run to the large boxes or hop in a peddle car for a quick trip. There are many ways a party can turn a backyard into an obstacle course without really changing the environment.
Step 3 The Foods
Little children love finger food, so parents can skip the big cake and create some cupcakes. Add in some Jell-o parfaits, trail mix type of foods and the kids will have fun while they eat. Try to incorporate the characters into the food names, and it will make the kids giggle. http://www.nickjr.com/the-backyardigans
Frost the cupcakes in the colors of the Backyardigans characters, the kids will help themselves. Frosting all the cupcakes in pink and adding orange polka dots of frosting can make there become Uniqua-cakes. The parent who is hosting the party can bake a variety of flavors to appease the children.
Penguin cups named after Pablo are little plastic cups filled with blue Jell-o and topped with a dollop of Cool Whip to resemble an iceberg on top of water. Serve Moose tracks ice cream and rename it to Tyrone’s Tracks.
Make a trail mix of goldfish crackers, raisins, chocolate candy, pretzels, and bagel chips and mix in a large bowl. Call it Tasha’s surprise. Of course, parents can mix any type of crunchy things in here for the kids.
This leaves the beverage and of course Austin. Austin is a newer character to the infamous Backyardigans friends. A 2-liter of seven-up, a half-gallon of raspberry sherbet and a gallon of red Hawaiian Punch will make a tasty beverage for the kids. Serve it in a large punchbowl.
