Going camping but have no idea how to set-up a tent? Read on to learn how to pitch a tent.
Introduction
- If you are going camping, protect yourself from Mother Nature and bring a tent. Pitching a tent does not have to be a living nightmare. Take a deep breath, follow these tips and practice before leaving civilization.
What You'll Need
- Tent set.
- The set may include: tarp, tent, stakes, poles, rain-fly and owner's manual.
- Hammer.
- Light source.
- Good location.
Step 1: Select a Location
Choose high ground.
The ground should be flat.
Avoid valleys to prevent water collection.
Clear the area of rocks and branches.
Place a tarp or cloth on the ground (the size to the tent) to protect the bottom.
Try to pitch your tent in the daylight, especially the first few times.
Step 2: Separate the Poles
- Put together all of the tent poles.
- Unfold each pole.
- Click the segments of each pole together.
- Divide polls into groups, separated by size.
Step 3: Unroll the Tent
- If you haven't already, remove the tent from the bag.
- Carefully unroll the tent.
- The tarp may be connected to the tent.
- Open the tent, spreading it in bot directions.
Step 4: Pitch the Tent
- Select one of the longer poles.
- Feed through the flap on the right side of the tent.
- Be careful not to rip the tent.
- At each end of the pole, fasten the pole into the key.
- Securely fasten each clip around the pole.
- This will form the right side.
- Repeat with the left side.
- Using the hammer, stake each corner into the ground.
- Make sure to pull the tent taut.
- Take one of the small poles and insert it into the center of the tent.
- Secure into the key and fasten the clips.
- Repeat with the remaining four poles.
- Use the remaining stakes to secure the tent to the ground.
- Fit the rain-fly tightly over the tent.
