Introduction
Paying your bills over the internet can save you time and money, and will also help preserve the environment by eliminating paper waste. Make sure you only do this with trusted businesses -- once someone has your account info, they may be able to take money out without your permission. When in doubt, use the method in step 3, which does not require you to give anyone your sensitive information. -
Step 1: Organize Your Bills
To get started, make a list of all your regular bills. It may help to collect the bills you have received in the mail over the past month.Once you have compiled a complete list, write down all of the companies that you would like to set up online bill-pay with. This may include water, gas and utility companies, along with auto or credit card lenders. Note any questionable businesses or individuals on this list, as you won't want to give them access to your personal accounts.

Step 2: Go Online
First, go to the websites of all companies on your list. Sign into your account, and look for an automatic bill pay option. If you cannot find the information you need, send an email to customer support requesting to pay your bill online. Then, follow all instructions provided. You will most likely need to provide:
- Bank or credit card numbers
- Billing address
- Exact name on the account
- Your contact information
If whomever you are doing business with accepts your request, you do not need to take any further steps. Your account will be automatically billed at regular intervals.

Step 3: Go Through Your Bank
If you are unable to set up bill pay directly through a company, you can still set it up with your bank online. This option is also preferable if you do not want a third party to have access to your account information, or if you want to control the money that comes from the bank. Here's what to do:- Go to your bank's website
- Look for a bill paying option
- Enter the names, account numbers and addresses of everyone you want to pay online
- Choose to make recurring or one-time payments
- Follow all instructions provided by your bank
