How To Rip Jeans
This video by ExpertVillage explains how to make your own ripped jeans. The demonstrator uses a pair of black jeans for this project. She says that washing and drying is an important step in getting the "frayed" look.

Step 1: What You'll Need
- An old pair of jeans
- Sharp scissors
- Sandpaper
- A nylon hair brush
- Access to a washing machine and dryer
- Bleach (optional)
Step 2: Create Faux Wear-and-Tear
The first thing you should do to get the destroyed jeans look is to create some faux (fake) wear spots. Take rough sandpaper and rub the jeans where you want the holes to go. This will make the fabric lighter so it looks as if its faded and will make the fabric thinner.Step 3: Design Your Ripped Jeans
After you have your worn-out marks, take a pair of scissors and cut small slits where you want the holes to be. Avoid cutting too close to the seams of the jeans because when you wash them later, you don't want the entire garment to unravel. http://fluxorist.blogspot.com/2009/07/diy-ripped-jeans.html After you cut the holes, rip the fabric open with your hands and then use a hairbrush (or sandpaper) to fray the denim. Remember not to cut your holes too big because they will get bigger when you fray them.Step 4: More Ideas for Distressed Jeans
If you really want to go for the destroyed jeans look you can add bleach splatters to the jeans. Don't use 'stretchy' jeans or denim with spandex because the bleach can ruin the fibers. If you want big blotches, use a cup to pour the bleach in spots on the jeans. For the splattered affect, sprinkle the beach in droplets straight from the bottle. If you want it to look as if bleach dripped on your jeans, hang them up and spray the bleach on with a spray bottle; you can adjust the nozzle on the bottle to create a fine spray or bigger droplets. You can wash the jeans in cold water after the bleach turns white.http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/lifestyles/fashion/s_629153.htmlResources Powered by Google
