Step 1: What You'll Need to Make Waffles
- Waffle iron
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 3 whole eggs, separated
- 2 ounces unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups buttermilk, room temperature
- Non stick cooking spray, for waffle iron
Step 2: Make the Waffle Batter
- Combine the dry ingredients
- Whisk together the egg yolks, melted butter, and buttermilk.
- Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Add the egg yolk mixture to the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth.
- Fold in the egg whites to the waffle batter.
Step 3: Cook the Waffles
- Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Spoon the waffle batter onto the waffle iron. The amount you'll use will vary depending on the waffle iron, but is usually around a third of a cup.
- Cook until the waffle is brown and separates easily from the waffle iron. The waffle iron may have a light that indicates when the waffle is done,. You'll notice less steam escaping from the waffle as it cooks.
