- Trail mix makes an easy snack for ton the go people. It's easily customized to your tastes, and the recipe can be modified to include whatever you have on hand. The key to a successful trail mix is to vary flavors, including both sweet and salty, as well as textures, including both crunchy and soft.
Step 1: How to Make Trail Mix
- There are as many combinations of ingredients for trail mix as there are people who eat it. Try mixing together equal proportions of:
- Nuts
- Raisins
- Chocolate chips or M&Ms
- Store in a sealed container, or sealable bag until ready to eat
Step 2: Trail Mix Tips
- Omit chocolate chips or candy if the trail mix will be stored or consumed in warm weather.
- Substitute sunflower seeds for nuts if you have a nutallergy.
- Vary the mix by adding:
- Pretzels
- Breakfast cereal
- Granola
- Candied ginger
- Substitute dried apricots, prunes, cherries or cranberries for all or part of the raisins
- Use white chocolate chips instead of dark or milk chocolate
